One of Constantine’s first actions associated with the foundation of Constantinople was to trace and erect a new line of land walls, inside which the new city expanded into more than triple the size of the city of Byzantium. Although traces of this wall have not been preserved, some researchers of the topography of Constantinople have suggested their views regarding its location and the location of some of its gates. The wall was destroyed some time after the mid-8th century. |
