An illustrious member of the Doranites aristocratic family from Trepizond. Constantine Doranites’ activity should be viewed within the context of the civil strife that disrupted the Empire of Trebizond in the 14th century. During the period of the reign of emperor Michael Grand Komnenos he was granted the dignity of protovestiarios. He revolted against Alexios III Grand Komnenos without any success, as the kephalatikeuon of the Limnia.

Constantine Maleinos was born at the end of the 9th or the beginning of the 10th century, possibly in Cappadocia. He was member of a powerful family of the military aristocracy of Asia Minor situated in the theme of Charsianon. He reached the summit of his career in the middle of the 10th century, when he held the office of strategos; he was also member of the Senate and he was honored with the title of patrikios. Constantine Palaiologos
Constantine Palaiologos (16/2/2006 v.1) Κωνσταντίνος Παλαιολόγος (14/10/2005 v.1)

Half brother of emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos and third son of megas domestikos Andronikos Palaiologos, he was born around 1230. He made a career as a general and his brother granted him the title of caesar in 1259 and later the title of sebastokrator. He took part in the battle of Pelagonia (in 1259) and in the re-establishment of the Byzantine authority over Peloponnesus from 1262. He died as monk Kallinikos, probably around 1275.

Eirene of Trebizond
Eirene of Trebizond (26/1/2006 v.1) Ειρήνη Τραπεζουντία (14/10/2005 v.1)

A descendant of an aristocratic family of Trebizond and the wife of emperor Basil Grand Komnenos. In September 1351 she led a campaign against Constantine Doranites, who was a military commander at Limnia. Eirene of Trebizond is considered to be the founder of the church of the monastery of Theotokos Theoskepastos. She died after 1381.

Eirene Palaiologina
Eirene Palaiologina (26/1/2006 v.1) Ειρήνη Παλαιολογίνα (14/10/2005 v.1)

Eirene Palaiologina was the elder sister of Emperor Michael VIII. She was born before 1220 and died in 1284. She was married to the pinkernes John Kantakouzenos and had four daughters, while after the monarch’s death she became a nun under the name Eulogia. She expressed some political ambitions and tried to influence her brother’s policies. However, as a fanatic opponent of the union of the Churches, she finally disagreed with him.
